National education boards in India


  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE): Established in 1962, this is one of the national boards in India
  • Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE): One of the national boards in India
  • National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS): One of the national boards in India
State education boards in India 
  • Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE): Established in 1965, this board is for schools in Maharashtra
  • Each state in India: Has its own education board that sets standards for schools in that state
Other education boards Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). 
Education boards conduct board examinations for students in classes 10th and 12th.
